1996 Comet increased its offering of multimedia to over 180 stores nationwide. Comet acquired Norweb Retail and increased its store portfolio to over 250 stores nationwide.
1999 Comet increased its
market share to 12.3% and sales rose by 5.1% to £862.4 million, with profits
remaining flat at £33.4. New Destination store format is launched, new
concept stores open in Paisley, Greenwich and Reading.
Comet launches its Every Day Low Price strategy.
Comet launches fully transaction website comet.co.uk.
Comet wins Best Industry Initiative Award in National Recycling Awards.
2001/02 Comet delivered Retail Profit of £43.7 million and increased market share to 13.3%
2002 Comet launches latest
flagship 'Destination' (Mark 2) store at St Andrew's Quay in Hull – seventy
years after opening its first ever store in the city.
Comet launches two new websites, its recruitment website www.cometjobs.co.uk,
and its Virtual Press Office. Both of the above sites can be accessed through
the main Comet site www.comet.co.uk.
